“Audience?” scoffs Friedler. “What are you, the Pope? Did he call it that, or do you?”

His avatar continues to parade around Caulden’s virtual office as he speaks, examining the furnishings sniffily. Occasionally, little micro-expressions of strain pass over his face, and he grunts slightly.
